The Earth and Hearth has a newly expanded retail section with an assortment
of high quality local craft foods and unique specialty items.
Food for Thought
Just down the road in Honor, Food
For Thought is a company that creates unique products from local fruits
and vegetables, and markets them in a responsible way. For more than ten
years, Food For Thought has provided organic foods and treats unlike any
we have seen anywhere else.
In addition to providing tasty and healthy treats for us, Tim Young,
the owner of Food For Thought, is committed to preserving our way of life
in northern Michigan. He is a good corporate citizen, and donates substantial
portions of his profits and his time to local non-profit organizations.
Below are some of the items we stock. There are more, and they are all
delicious, so come take a look.

Organic Blueberry Lavender Preserve
Michigan's plump blueberries are delicately enhanced with a touch of lavender's
reverie... an elegant, old world combination.
Organic
Cherry Butter
There's no better way to take advantage of the antioxidant benefits of
cherries than with this very concentrated cherry spread. We simply puree
whole organic tart cherries, cook them down, and add a bit of organic
white grape juice concentrate to tame the tartness. A healthy cherry treat!

Organic Tart Cherry Cabernet Preserves
Whole organic tart cherries with a touch of Cabernet. Spread this on toast
or top your favorite cheesecake recipe. Voila'!
Pickled
Wild Leeks
Harvested from the forest right here on our farm, these tasty morsels
can be used like cocktail onions, tossed in salads, stir fries or just
eat them right out of the jar. When the leeks are gone, add some canola
oil to the brine and you've got a fabulous salad dressing.
Alden Mill House
The Alden Mill
House started in 1984, 22 years ago, by selling Chef Geno's all purpose
seasoning Miracle Blend and other Pepper Mill Spices. The founder of Pepper
Mill Spice Company, Eugene Moglovkin (aka Chef Geno), was a famous American
Chef with European training. Over the years, Chef Geno developed his own
custom seasoning blends that have been used in some of American's finest
clubs and restaurants. Chef Geno has won numerous awards and ribbons in
culinary art shows from Michigan to Florida. His spices are favorites
in northern Michigan, and now you can get them at the Earth and Hearth.
Moonworks
Moon
Works is produced by some nice people up in Suttons Bay. This stuff
really works. We've been using it for the last couple of years, and don't
want to use anything else. Mood Works laundry powder is designed to be
kind to the environment. It is gentle on delicate fabrics, contains no
optical brighteners or sodium lauryl sulfate (a synthetic substance that
acts as a detergent and can cause allergic reactions). Moon Works laundry
powder is economical. It costs less per load than most other laundry products.
Moon Works laundry powder creates NO SUDS, therefore no residue. It is
a misconception that lots of suds equates to cleaner clothes.

Now, truth be told, these guys aren't from northern Michigan, but our
daughter loves to bake scones (especially Lemon Poppyseed) from their
mixes, so we couldn't resist selling them at the Earth and Hearth. There
are a variety of scone flavors, along with muffins, brownies, and even
Irish soda bread.

Scones: Wild Blueberry, Lemon Poppyseed, Cocoa Chocolate Chip, Tart Cherry

Muffins: Morning Glory, Wild Blueberry Also: Irish Soda Bread, Chocolate
Fudge Brownies

The Cooper Family from Manistee makes some of the best jams in northern
Michigan. They use locally grown fruit to hand make these delicious treats.

Sleeping Bear Farms in Beulah produces delicious Honey Mustard and Honey
Cremes. The Honey Mustard is made with real honey, no sugar added, and
comes in a variety of flavors, including cherry, dill, pepper and plain.
Delicious on sandwiches, or as a dip.

The Honey Cremes are spreads made with Star Thistle honey and pure fruit
or nuts. The honey is mixed with fruit and slowly spun until it becomes
a fine spreadable creme. Great on your morning toast…
Forgot the salt for your Margarita glasses? Leave the dipping oil at
home? How about the spicy rub for that chicken you're roasting tonight?
Stop in and pick up these essentials this afternoon. Don't miss the new
spices and soup and pasta mixes while you're there.
Of course, there is also a selection of snacks as well. You'll find chips,
nuts, trail mix as well as some secret recipe olives that are to die for.
Don't worry. We've got you covered.
